He was in the House of Represetatives from 1816-1821. Then he became the governer of Virginia. After he became a senetor and reluctantly supported President jackson as a choice of evil. He then banded with Henry clay, Daniel Webster, and their newly formed Whig party against President Andrew Jackson. In 1840 he was nominated for vice presiden by the Whigs. But then President Harrison died therefor Tyler became president. The Whigs were ok with it but then he started misusing his veto power so they kicked him out of their party. John Quincy Adams also noticed this and reported that President Tyler was misusing his veto power unfrotunetly the restoration failed.
